Triple M Smoothie

healthy green smoothie

I love my smoothies. I really do. I especially enjoy trying out new variations and see how crazy I can get with those super food ingredients. Yes, I know it’s a bit sad that my idea of a crazy good time is playing around with Kale, turmeric and other antioxidant rich foods! To each her own!
I just love the way that this smoothie makes me feel. It’s like a bolt of energy, perfect for the mid-day slumps. You literally feel healthier with each sip. (Or maybe that’s just the power of suggestion, but whatever) Either way, it tastes pretty awesome, it easy to make and very filling as well. You can purchase Matcha powder in most health food stores or online. Matcha powder is a special form of powdered green tea. See this site for all the health benefits of drinking it. Maqui is a purple Chilean berry that is one of the most anti-oxidant rich foods ever, rich with anti-aging anthocyanins and other anti-inflammatory compounds. It is dried and ground into a powder for smoothies and baking. I get mine at Whole Foods. If you want to go simpler, however, just leave out the Matcha and Maqui! It will taste just as good.

What super foods do you like to put into your smoothies?

Recipe by: Jenny Berk

1 cup Almond milk (or milk of choice)
Frozen Mango (found in most grocery stores – I got mine from Trader Joes)
¼ teaspoon of Matcha green tea powder (a little goes a long way!)
Big handful of Spinach
1/2 frozen banana (halve bananas and keep them in the freezer for smoothies)
1 teaspoon of Maqui powder
2 tablespoons of chia or flax seeds
Sweetener of choice (not needed!)

  4. I love putting mango in my smoothies! Here in Mexico, summer is mango season, so I’ll have to wait until then to get them fresh. So worth it!

This looks yummy! Do you know…does the matcha powder have caffeine?

    1. jennyberk says:

Hi Maggie! Such a good question. It has a lot of caffeine actually because it’s basically powdered green tea leaves which are naturally high in caffeine. But, it’s probably less than coffee! Also, there are several studies that suggest that green tea helps boost metabolism, which i think is pretty awesome. lol

Have all except Maqui. I have used matcha in smoothies before. Love the taste it gives. Subtle, but green.
